There are several important important changes in the GEO program this Spring Semester. These changes were in response to a fuller appreciation of the needs of the GEO students, as well as a move to utilize the resources made available to the program. One of these changes was the formulation of the English in Action Program.
The English in Action Program is PRIMARILY BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY meant to reinforce the existing GEO classes that are held twice a week (i.e. Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday) by providing complementary lessons in English. We say that the English in Action Program is PRIMARILY meant to target GEO students BUT non-GEO CUK students CAN ALSO participate in this program; it is NOT exclusively for GEO students alone. Most importantly, this program runs FREE OF CHARGE. Literally anybody in the CUK campus can take advantage of the benefits of the program (see the English in Action Program poster below)
Under the English in Action Program, GEO students are asked to come to the Songsim Global Lounge (see photo below) for one-hour sessions, twice in the semester (i.e. once before and once after the semestral mid-term), to be facilitated by Masters-level student/teaching assistants from the Philippines (i.e. "Filipino TAs" or "FTAs"). The lessons depend on the needs of the students (i.e. grammar and syntax check, conversation practices, etc.).
The GEO students need to make an appointment with the friendly and helpful Global Lounge staff (see photo below) to avail of the English in Action Program services. Having made a prior appointment, the GEO students are the first priority. However, any CUK student who will drop by the Global Lounge will be accommodated by the available FTA on duty. There are, on average, four to six FTAs on duty at the Global Lounge from 1 to 9 PM, Mondays to Fridays (except holidays). The FTAs can handle lessons with individuals or small groups (i.e. 3-5 students), thus, everyone will be accommodated.
We reiterate: EVERYONE IS WELCOME! VISIT THE GLOBAL LOUNGE AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE ENGLISH IN ACTION PROGRAM.
