GEO Winter Camp Facilities (Part 1)

During the 2nd GEO Winter Camp from January to February 2010, the Press Club conducted a small survey among the GEO students. There were five (5) survey questions asked. We will talk about these one by one.

Question: Which of the GEO Winter Camp facilities do you most enjoy using?


Answer: Conference Room (9 responses or 3 percent of the total responses)
Answer: Global Lounge (236 responses or 77 percent of the total responses)
Answer: Gym (54 responses or 18 percent of the total responses)
Answer: Listening Lab (5 responses or 2 percent of the total responses)



Let us begin with the Global Lounge, by far the most popular facility during the 2nd GEO Winter Camp. The Global Lounge is found on the ground floor of the International Hub (IH) Building in CUK's Songsim Campus. It is a spacious facility that houses three (3) meeting rooms; desktop computer terminals with internet access; lounge (sofa) sets; a Media facilities (for watching movies and television) area; tables and chairs (separate from the lounge sets) that can easily seat 60 persons; a counter where coffee and light snacks can be bought (operated by students, by the way ---this will be tackled in a separate blog ;-D ); a central control/information area where books, board games, audio-video and other materials can be borrowed by students. This lounge maintains an "English Only" Policy (i.e. watch TV or a movie in English, listen to songs in English, buy coffee in English, converse in English, etc.). GEO used this facility as an alternative teaching site, encouraging students to engage in English conversation while relaxing (see some photos below).
