Class 3-1 Chronicles (PART 1)

Mon. 28 June 2010Class 3-1 has 8 students. They are Jung Duck, Eun Hye, Chang Hyun, Bo Reum, Ji Young, Yeo Jun, Woo Hee, and me (Seul gi). It was our first time to meet each other so Alice, our homeroom professor, asked us to introduce ourselves in class. To make the activity more easy, she grouped us by pairs and each of us introduced ourselves to our partners. We talked about our home town, major, favorite things, and etc. After a few minutes, Glenn (our class TA) introduced himself. After that, Alice made us re-introduce our partners but we couldn't memorize all the information that we just talked about! The situation was so funny that all laughed at the same time. In the end of the class, Glenn gave us our text books and as he did this, Alice said "We are going to finish this text book by the end of this camp." :)

Tue. 29 June 2010We finally used our text books in Class 3-1. Today, the topic discussed was entitled "FOOD: Fuel or Pleasure?" (pp. 4~7) Our study didn't focus much on grammar today because our professor said that G.E.O. doesn't merely focus on grammar but more on developing our speaking skills. Using the computer, Alice also showed us pictures of her son. Then she gave us time to prepare for our very first presentation homework. She said: "Until Friday, you should introduce yourself by using your personal photos and don't use handouts or copies while presenting.

Today we used our American English File text book and learned about cheating in sports. The main subject was "If you really want to win, cheat." It was very interesting to study about it! Then we made three groups and conversed with each other. Another activity that we had was to make a story using 20 cards. Group 2 wasn't able to use all of the cards but they made a very impressive story.

During the four weeks of our stay here, Class 3-1 will be having a Listening Lab every Wednesday. So, we had our first Listening Lab today. It was fun as well! When we made a correct answer, we could gather up points (or grains) and it will all be donated to the poor. There were very difficult words but many words were also repeated. It was a great time for Class 3-1!

We learned about "Family" today. Alice divided us into 3 groups and told us to draw each of our own family tree. Then we discussed about our family members. During this time, we learned new to family so easily.  For example, I was confused about the words step-sisters and half-sisters.  But now I exactly know about each meaning.  We also learned about personality subjectives during this time.  We listened to a psychologist talking about the influence of our position in the family on our personality.  I think that we now know how to call our family members in English this time.

We introduced ourselves to use pictures so that we could know more about our class member's life.  The most interesting presentation was Changyun's English movie.  He showed it to us.  We didn't get the movie's main subject but it was still a good one.  And also, Jiyoung's presentation, the leader of Class 3-1, was nice.  She introduced herself to us by using a lot of her pictures from her travels during vacations.  Finally, we finished the first chapter of our textbook and the first week of GEO and they told us that we are going to the Blue House for a field trip on the third week! :)
