At first, the master of ceremony TA Byeoung Soo explained how the game was played. Not much explanation was needed, because the teams already practiced this game before, so everybody knew the rules already. The only thing that‘s needed was to decide who plays the game first. The order of the game was decided through playing rock-scissor-paper. The winner of the rock-scissor-paper game gets to go first.
The game mechanics is as follows: a word appears on the screen and a ‘guesser’ has to guess the word through the explanations made by the team members. However, the team member cannot say the term or part of the word that appears in the screen.
Hwang Byung Chul shares “Everyone tried their best to get the points. Sometimes, guessers got the right answer even though the members explained the term poorly. But on other occasions, the players explained the terms very well. There were instances when everyone (including the audience) knew the answer, but the guesser was the only one who doesn’t know the right answer. It was funniest when players said incorrect answers. For example, when the word “foot” was on the screen, the team member pointed his finger to the back of his foot, and the guesser said “Achilles”. And another word “magic”, the team member paused to think a little and said with motion “pyong” in Korean. We laughed a lot. Everyone was excited and the place was filled with shouts and cheers…. “
Other students also shared their experiences regarding the Speed Quiz too.
According to Lee Kwan Woo It was very interesting experience for him to play the speed quiz. He said: “All students who participated in the game did their best. We all had fun. I was very satisfied and the speed quiz exceeded my expectations. Describing something was very exciting and interesting. I think speed quiz enabled us to be more confident.
Hyuk CHul imparts “Because of passions of the participants, tensions were raised. I could feel the tensions inside the room. There were so many funny and creative explanations of the words.”
Jun Hee reveals “It was very funny when Min Ho said “I don’t see”. In his turn, he looked back to the screen by mistake. Everyone believed he looked on the screen so they wanted to give him a penalty. But it was not true, just a mistake. Because of this, he has to go back to his seat because of the penalty he incurred due to his actions."
Finally Byung Hoon shares that the ways of explaining the words were very funny, everybody had a big laugh. It was really funny. The competition was very fantastic. Everybody loved that game, and each competitor could get more confidence to play game creatively. It took one hour but nobody would think it was boring. It was really good time. Through that game, participants increased their interest in GEO. It also built camaraderie among the group members of each team.
