Here's another Buddy from Abroad (BFA)who willingly wants to share his story about himself, his expectations about GEO and simply being a BFA.
Let's check out what Russell Tolentino has to impart to us.
"I’d like to describe myself as an ‘ambitious’ person; do you want to know why? It’s because I think that God did not just create this stunning world for nothing. It is made for us to explore and to find our place in this unique world.
Since when I was young I’ve always wanted to discover the infinite amount of cultures of the world. I am most eager to broaden my knowledge and gain more experiences in exploring the very distinct cultures of Asia. The reason behind this is that I have a Filipino background. I lived in the Philippines for 12 years but I think that I have never really had a good chance to fully discover what Asia really has to offer.
For me, moving to London felt like I have been thrown into a totally different world - Multicultural people, different language and of course a completely new culture. Adapting to the British culture took time and it was a little scary at first, but since I am very fascinated to experience diverse cultures, and understand the uniqueness of each country, I managed to adapt very well and I even really enjoyed the process.
Though I have travelled to different places, I certainly think that it is not enough and it will never be enough until I have travelled to at least 50 countries of the 196 countries of the world; travelling is my passion I shall say.
…and here I am now, in South Korea, a country that I have always wanted to visit, not just because of KPOP, but because of the very exciting culture it offers; from the distinctive language and fascinating history and traditions, to the wide variety of the amazing, I repeat, AMAZING Korean foods.
As much as I take pleasure learning the Korean language and culture as a student here in CUK, I also enjoy being a TA and sharing my English knowledge and skills to my GEO students. To break the ice with them, I had such a remarkable first day when they would not let me start my introduction presentation unless I sing; ‘Baby’ by Justin Beiber? Oh come on!
For the past week, I have been doing good guiding my students to improve their English knowledge and skills. I have attended one class session so far, I was a bit nervous but it went really well, and I have also been getting in touch with my students, not just through ‘KaKao Talk’, but I managed to take most of them out for a chat and have those sizzling hot amazing Korean food- I could not stress this enough!
This is just the beginning! I’m very much looking forward experiencing more extraordinary things here in South Korea, so until then…"
