Travel Diary
2014.02.17 Mon (Kim Jiwon / Nam Yura)
We woke up at 6:30 A.M so it was difficult
to get away from sleep. We were surprised because of Hyun Ho, our leader. He
woke up at 5:30 A.M and was already dressed up. Beside him, we had breakfast
closing our eyes. It was good so we enjoyed it. Especially Hyun Young really
enjoyed “Nutella” (Which is an evil jam.). After the meal, we had to take a
shower with cold water. Freezing!! I felt like I was going to die. We also
walked around the house we stayed in. We played with the snow like in the movie
“Frozen.”
At
8:45 A.M, we met our teacher Ken and Darlene and headed to Mark Twain’s house.
We arrived early so we had to wait until it opened. As we entered the museum,
we found a big Lego of Mark Twain. We spent some time with him taking some
pictures. We met a nice guide and he tried to understand and answer all our
questions. Mean while, as we toured the place, we got information of Mark Twain
and his family. Also, we figured out the answer to the mission! So we took some
photos with a big frog.
Away from the schedule, we also visited
Harriet Beecher Stowe’s house. It was awesome because it reminded us the book ‘Tom
uncle’s cabin’, from what we read when we were children. We met another guide
in her house but compared to the other guide, he wasn't great.
At lunch time, we went to ‘Gobi; Mongolian
Grill.’ We were shocked because of the arrangement. We could select
ingredients, from whatever we wanted and see the ingredients being cooked. One
of the chef who roasted the food asked me “Are you Korean?” so I thought he was
also Korean but he was not, he was Chinese. We were also amazed since there
were various kinds of ice cream! It was different with restaurants in Korea.
After the meal, we arrived at the house and the class started. It
was about John F. Kennedy, who was the president of the United States. We didn’t
know much because he was a famous person from another country but we learned a
lot from the article we read. Unfortunately, we all felt exhausted so we went
back to our room and took some rest until 6:15 P.M. Then we got our new
assignment for tomorrow.
Some of us rested even during the dinner
time and most of us went out to American Grill named “Wood & Tap.” We had
burger, steak, and pizza there. It was quite salty but it was less salty than
what we ate in Detroit. We thought it was a good idea to doggy bag, if there
are some foods we cannot finish. And we were also curious that we couldn’t
drink.
We were tired during the whole day and we
hope to adapt to the difference in time zone soon.
