TAs Sentiments Revealed

CUK's GEO Program is not only composed of English classes. There are also other activities such as the English Clinic and OBF visits where students go to the Global Lounge to talk to foreigner friends in English. There are also social activities like the Colloquiums, the Cheese & Wine parties, Halloween parties, among others, where students get to mingle with their classmates and GEO batch mates. Furthermore, there are also club activities where students can make use of the English language while learning and having fun in their chosen club. Indeed, GEO is a worthwhile experience for students, especially in terms of practicing their English skills, being comfortable in conversing using the English language.

Throughout the semester, we heard from the students about their sentiments about GEO. We read numerous articles submitted by the GEO students. We saw how they improve in their English speaking skills. As the semester is coming to an end, we would like to hear from the other side of the GEO Program. Hence, we invited the teaching assistants to share their sentiments regarding the clubs they handled or the GEO activities they were involved in.

Alex Aquino of the Pop Song Club shares: "I was surprised that the pop song club had the most number of GEO students. This means that many students were really eager to learn English through singing English songs and in a classroom-turned-into-a-Karaoke Room type of venue. Hearing Korean pop songs and seeing Singing Rooms everywhere, we can say that Koreans definitely appreciate music so this idea of learning English through pop song club is a hit. It was a rewarding feeling to see students sing and learn English at the same time especially when the students passionately sang during club meetings and when I, together with some students, performed in the Cheese & Wine Party. I really enjoyed being the Club TA for the English Pop Song Club."

Abigail Go, the Blog Editor reveals that "Being part of the GEO program, we stay in the dormitory with our Korean roommates. During the semester, we eventually become close friends with them. It's nice that we can meet new people and eventually become lifelong friends. For the GEO blog, it is a great experience for me. I learned a lot reading the articles that students submit. I also get to learn more about the Korean culture, researching on the Korean society, the places to see, things to do, etc."
