8th Day Travel Diary
We woke up an hour later and we had more time to prepare. After having our meal, we went to Yale University in 40 minutes. Unlike the other universities, we went to the visit center to start the tour. We found a bulldog statue there so we realized that it is Yale University’s mascot. Before we went on the tour, we watched the promotion video about Yale University. While we watched the video, our university suddenly came into our mind. However, it was quite different with ours. It was very interesting with song and was impressed with vast amount of information.
Different with
tours in the other universities, the tour guide was not Korean; but from UK.
Because it was difficult to understand, we felt many things. Even though the
guide was not American we were aware Yale has open mind for international
students. For example, Yale even gives financial aid to students from other
countries. Yale also supports students’ small interests, like passion for
cheese. There were many clubs music, dance, debating, comedy, and so on.
Yale’s facilities
were very big and antique so we felt like we were in a palace. Total mood of
the campus was combination of Harvard and MIT. Students in Yale showed us how
proud they were of their university. It’s a value to learn. The tour finished
in front of the gift shop and it was nice arraignment to specialize the gift
shop. Our tour guide Russell ended with an explanation why he selected the
university. Few years ago, he also came to Yale, to tour the campus and the
tour guide at that time influenced him. It was interesting. One of our groups
interviewed Russell after the tour. The most shocking fact was that he knew Psy
but he didn't know Psy is Korean.
In all the gift
shop in the Ivy League, we were amazed that the university can be merchandised
for souvenirs. We imagined our university can too. After visiting the
bookstore, we went to a pizza restaurant for lunch. To save time, we ate our
pizza and in the car. We felt freshness of the seafood on the pizza.
After lunch, we
went to the outlet. There were not that many products to buy compared with what
we imagined. However, we found many inexpensive items especially produced in
other countries and indirectly realized that Korea collects more taxes.
There was an
incident when I went to the Yankee Candle store. When I was breathing the scent
of the candles, it slipped out of my hand and I dropped it. I was worried and
tried to pay for it, but the staff told me that it happens all the time and I
didn't have to pay for it. But I still apologized and felt that people in
America are kind and nice.
After shopping in
the outlet, we went to a big market to purchase some food. There were diverse
types of sweets such as chocolates, jelly, and candies. In America, every
product is sold in sacks and those compared were expensive in Korea were cheaper
here.
Then we came back
home and had a barbecue party. While eating, we talked about the stories in
America and listened to a story from a student studying here. We had fun
because he was unique and all the different things happened to us were diverse
and interesting.
Now we are going
to pack our luggage and prepare to leave. We are worried about suffering jet
leg.
