Student’s impressions of the G.E.O. program

During this summer vacation, 120 students have studied conversational English in Yong-in through the G.E.O program. Even though we've participated in G.E.O. for only a few days, we talk to each other by using English all day long! So students may think that this program is good or maybe not. That’s why the press team decided to find out our student’s impressions of the G.E.O. program.

To know about the students’ feeling, I interviewed 6 students. I asked several questions about their purpose to participate in this program, the program and so on.

Firstly, I asked questions of Yoo Byoung Soo. Like other students, he wants to speak English very well. He says that he did not feel good when he came here, because the location of the program was changed. Now, he is feeling very good. He can meet many friends and there are a lot of activities. Also he says “I’m proud of this program. Despite the tight schedule, this program is wonderful!”

I also met Kim Sin Sil. When I see her, she looks happy. So I asked her the same questions. She says “This is a good chance to use English all day. Usually, Koreans can’t use English in daily life. And it is hard to go to other countries that use English as a first language.” She adds that dividing the students in teams is an excellent idea, because students can teach each other.

I also interviewed Park Hye Rim. She thought this is a good chance. And she says “I expected that teachers would run clubs, but T.A.s are doing it. So I feel a little embarrassed. However this program is an intensive course to improve speaking English skills. I use grammar naturally, even thought teachers do not emphasize it at all.”

Lee Sang Hwa said she came for making friends. She really likes to meet people that study a different major from her.

Kim Ho Yeong also talks about G.E.O. He says that he can’t speak English well. However, the world is getting globalized and he needs to speak English well to get a job. He really likes to talk to people. Before he came here, he talked with a foreign missionary. While talking with him, he felt pleased. He says about G.E.O. that this program is very effective and the cost is more reasonable than other programs. “I have a chance to practice English. I applied again for the next semester.”

Lastly, I met Lee Yoon Sung. “I also think that this program is a good chance to speak English. And there are lots of clubs here, so I'm having fun. Especially the sports club is very good. “He mentioned that all teachers are very well qualified and the classes are very good. The only disappointing thing is reduced class time.” This just shows you how enthusiastic our students are!
