Sports!! Tuesday July 28, 2009
On Tuesday evening, we played a few sport games.
There are so many things to do during the evening program, such as watching movies (of course without the caption), having fun team time, a speech contest, a CUK got Talent contest. Anyway, today our activity was to play some games and practice the dance with the ‘Do Re Me’ song.
For the outdoor activity, we went to the lawn nearby the classrooms. But the situation was so different from what we expected it to be. It was raining a little bit, so many students worried about the weather. However the program progressed favorably even though it rained more and more. The games were composed of two different things. The one was to take our shoes off and then we had to tie up all our shoe laces!!! It was called the LACE RACE! Unfortunately, some students couldn’t take part in this game because they didn’t wear shoes with shoe laces.
The other was to take off our shoes again and make a heap of shoes as high as a mountain. The next step was that all participants ran to put on their shoes, which took some time. The rule of game is to put on shoes as fast as possible. The team who had their shoes tied first was the winners. After the game finished, the winning team was given a lot of snacks. (Of course the losers got some too...)
One of the students said, “The games look easy and not fun, but it really makes students relax and they got to know each other.”
Another student also said: “The staff of the GEO program intended us to feel something exotic, something different, using English naturally.”
I think it is true. Using English naturally is more important than studying English all day long in the classroom to gain a high score. Our purpose is to improve our English conversation ability and only not to show others our high TOEIC grades. Hence, many students (including me) evaluated this activity as being very helpful to us. Everyone looked so happy , regardless of who the winner was. We became one!
