Enjoying nice company and bonding moments in GEO Summer Party

GEO Summer Party was held June 7 and 8. It was indeed a great evening. We solicited some student comments about the party.

Below are the comments from Class 1-1...

Park Jin Hee, 1-1

Last Thursday, June 7, GEO17 Summer Party was held at the Global Lounge. Level 1 and 2 students, together with the professors and TA attended the Summer Party. Everyone was dressed by their summer outfits, some with their Aloha shirts. Professor Peter Jenkins shines than anybody else in the crowd. He looked like a star.

Tommy was one of the emcees. I was happy to see him.

Unlike the GEO activity programs, this party had more participatory games. We played the Guessing Game, the Tableaux and the Relay game which was the most fun. Hyun was my partner. It was a very challenging game but my class won the first place. Meanwhile, I got scared when the balloon popped.

Because of the party, I got closer with my classmates.

Kim Nam Hoon, 1-1

In Korea, parties are seldom held. So I was very glad to join the GEO Summer Party. I went to the Global Lounge with my classmates as a team. We played Guessing game, Tableaux and Relay game. Our team won in the Relay game. Yumi, together with the Pop song contest winner, sang a very beautiful song. They were very nice. We had some snacks afterwards. I t was a very nice day.

Kim Young Wook, 1-1

During the summer party, we won the games and got chocolate cookies. I joined in the relay game and it was no fun. But I heard someone performed the song Desperado. The singer was very good. After that we had our snacks. I ate my favorite fruits. Thank you!!!

GEO Summer Party jumpstarts the Summer Fun

With only a few weeks left in our spring semester, we look forward to a wonderful summer. Our students have a lot of plans for their summer which include “parties with friends and family and catching up on sleep”. To jumpstart your summer, an early GEO summer party for the GEO students last June 7 and 8 at the CUK Global Lounge. GEO Students enjoyed wonderful snacks and refreshments. A series of games such as Guessing Game, Balloon Popping Game and Tableau Game were also prepared to encourage interaction amongst GEO students. There were also heartwarming performances from our TAs Jiyeun, Karl, Yumi and winners from the OBF Pop Song contest. Surely, it was a night of entertainment and relaxation with friends - real great way to jumpstart our summer fun.

The Joy of Summer

During my summer vacation, I did volunteer work for “Habitat.”  Habitat means, ‘Building House of Love.’ I went to ‘Kwangyang’ in Cholla Province with my friends, and for three days I framed houses.

Although it was a tough job, I really enjoyed working there. I made lots of new friends, and I had a good time. When the house was completed, they invited me to a party. I couldn’t make it because of my busy schedule. However, I would love to visit the family again, since I miss them so much. It was indeed a meaningful experience.

Fun, Fulfilling Summer 2010

I took a bike trip during summer vacation.

I went to Chuncheon from Seoul.

It was really hard, but a great experience.

To me, this summer vacation was very special.

I worked part-time at an academy.

I taught math to elementary school students and middle school students.

I felt proud when students understood my explanations and their grades increased.

I went to the beach with my friends.

We had a good time swimming, making dinner and eating together.

At night, there were many performances on the beach.

It was very fun.

Our Summer travels for fun and for a cause

Our class theme is travel because we both went abroad during vacation.

First, I went to the Shanghai to visit the Shanghai Expo. I also saw impressive buildings in Shanghai such as 'The Bund'. During my stay in Shanghai, I heard a lot of Chinese people speaking in their native tongue.

Second, I went to Thailand. During Korea's summer months, it is Thailand's rainy season so the weather wasn't hot. There were so many foreigners from many countries.

I will remember this year's summer vacation forever.

Last vacation, I went to Sichuan, Chengdu and East Tibet. 

Do you know about Tibet? Many people don’t know about Tibet but it’s a very good place. I was in the car for about 12 hours. A very dangerous situation came to me and our team, but I arrived in East Tibet and met Tibetan children. Their warmth made me forget that I was so tired. After all the volunteer work was over, we finally took a picture. This is a picture of our team and Tibetan children.

My Osaka Summer Adventure

Last summer vacation, I travelled to Osaka, Japan with my friend for four nights and five days.

My friend and I arranged the trip all by ourselves so we had to book the airline tickets and the hotel. Before the trip, we met four to five times to confirm the plane, and to exchange our money to Japanese Yen. On the day we left for Japan, it was raining hard in Korea.

On the first day, we walked around the city of Osaka. We ate ramen and took pictures on the street.

On the second day, we woke up early because we wanted to see the festival of Kyoto. The weather forecast said it would be raining, but it was actually very hot. We always carried a bottle of water while sightseeing at the temples of Kyoto.

On the third day, we went to Kobe. Kobe is very famous for its exotic buildings. We looked around the buildings and ate famous Kobe beef for lunch.

On the fourth day, we used the 'Osaka joo yoo pass' and it allowed us to travel comfortably.

The Osaka joo yoo pass is made for foreigners. It is very useful to purchase this ticket if you go to Osaka. Although the ticket is expensive, it can help you to travel more conveniently in Osaka.

If you use it, you can enter the tourist facilities and use the subway for free. We used the ticket to go to Osaka castle, and went to Chutenkakoo observation tower. We ate sushi for dinner. It was fantastic! After dinner, we went to the Woomeda sky building. It is also an observation tower. In that place, we saw the night view of Osaka. It was fantastic too!

On our last day, we went shopping and went back to Kansai airport for our return trip to Korea.

Walking a lot, getting lost at times, and the hot weather of Japan made us very tired. But now, when I look back at our travel, Osaka gave us good memories.
