During the 2nd GEO Winter Camp from January to February 2010, the Press Club conducted a small survey among the GEO students. There were five (5) survey questions asked. We will talk about these one by one.
Question: Which of the GEO Winter Camp facilities do you most enjoy using?
Answer: Conference Room (9 responses or 3 percent of the total responses)
Answer: Global Lounge (236 responses or 77 percent of the total responses)
Answer: Gym (54 responses or 18 percent of the total responses)
Answer: Listening Lab (5 responses or 2 percent of the total responses)
The third most popular facility for students in the 2nd GEO Winter Camp was the Conference Room. It is located on the second (2nd) floor of the International Hub (IH) Building in CUK's Songsim Campus. The Conference Room can seat more than 200 persons at any given time. It has audio and video facilities that make it an ideal venue for large gatherings.
During the GEO Winter Camps, the Conference Room was utilized for conducting the general orientation of the students and to host the Student Speech/Presentation Contest finals. The GEO Speech/Presentation contests were organized according to the students' level assignment to make it extremely competitive. Students were given a set of topics to choose from. Thereafter, they were asked to prepare a MS Powerpoint (or its equivalent software) presentation within the time limit set (5 to 10 minutes, depending on the level), and come before their fellow students to make their speeches.
All students had to participate in the elimination rounds, where only the top 3 or 4 performers proceeded to the final round to be witnessed by virtually all the participants. The contest emphasized the students' skills at organizing their thoughts, mastering their voice and speech control and maintaining composure in front of a large crowd. To the credit of the students, they all performed remarkably well with the guiding hands of their professors. Finalists and winners received certificates of achievement and prizes from GEO, but most importantly, they received a validation of their English skills and self-confidence. See the photos below.
