Shayla: “What do you
think about being an English TA?”
Sarah: “Being an
English TA has got to be the best job EVER. A year ago, I would have never
thought that I’d be in Korea getting paid to do something that I love- TALK.
Everyone I have met is just so enthusiastic and awesome. Even though it’s
required on both ends for us to be there, it NEVER feels that way. All of the
students are unique and bring something new and interesting to the
conversation. It feels really genuine.”
Sh: “What do you find most difficult about doing the English Clinic?”
Sa: “One thing that
has been hard for me is the time limit. I often find myself caught up in a
really great conversation but it has to end abruptly because of the next
student waiting. Usually in every conversation I have it takes about 20-30
minutes for the student to really warm up to me and for us to kind of get past the
small talk. I am really interested in getting to know each student and try to build
a relationship with them. My main goal this semester is to have more than just
a required meeting relationship; I’d like to really make friends with everyone.
So in that one short hour I can’t really get to know them that well.”
Sh: “You have been
here for almost a month, what do you like the most?”
Sa: “ As far as Korea, I LOVE IT! The people are definitely my favorite part. It’s so awesome to just meet a stranger and then just one hour later feel like we’ve connected on some level. I’ve made so many friends through my job that I’ve made plans with outside of work. It is a great feeling when everyone is so welcoming and excited about being there.”
