I celebrated Chuseok by exploring Seoul. I
actually had the chance to visit the one place I've wanted to go to while I'm
here in Korea: Namsan Seoul Tower. I really wanted to go to visit the Locks of
Love, and place my own lock there. It was on the bridge with the locks that I
had the chance to reflect on my time here thus far.
The locks reminded me
that there are so many people out there with loved ones, who placed a lock for
their loved ones, and I knew that I had to do the same too. I placed a lock for
all the people in my life who love me (not just my significant other); it's all
of their love combined that keeps me going. I am thankful for my parents for
sacrificing so much so that I can be where I am today. I don't ever tell them
thank you enough, or that without them I would not have the opportunities that
I have been given today. I love them so much for always being there for me when
I need anything. On the back of the lock I listed the names of my best friends,
my grandparents and all the people whose love has shaped me into the person I
am today.
I am
very fortunate and blessed to be loved by the most amazing people. If it
weren't for their love, I don't think that I would have the courage to be here
today. It was a big risk to choose a school that no one has ever gone to
before, and it was an even bigger risk to leave my country for another country without
any knowledge of their language and culture. I carry my family
with me in my heart and it is because of them that I am strong. I don't tell
them all the time how much I really appreciate them.
On another note, I
also had the chance to go the top of Namsan Tower, and the view is beautiful.
On each window there is a city painted with what direction and how far it is
away from Seoul. I was happy to see Chicago because it reminded me of my
Chi-town family :) I am so happy I got the chance to see the one place I really
wanted to go. I had an amazing time.
