TA Jeremy recommends: The Incredibles (Movie, 2004)

If you are a fan of old comic books and new age adventure all in the same fun film then perhaps this movie is just for you!

The Incredibles is a 2004 American film directed by Brad Bird (who producedand shaped the first few seasons of the Simpsons ) and was released by the Walt Disney Company.  It is a computer animated comedy which is very action packed and contains plenty of cartoon superhero type characters for people of all ages to enjoy.
The film was one of the most successful and highest grossing movies for the year grossing a cool $631million at the global box office. It also won the academy award in 2004 for best animated feature.

Without giving too much of the storyline away it basically follows a family of superheros who are living in a quiet suburban area who have to hide their super hero powers from the world. One of the main characters (father bob / my incredible) makes the most of his desire to help people in the world and in doing so he ends up in a battle with an evil character who has a killer robot. What happens then is a fierce battle between bob’s entire family and the evil characters in a bid to save the world.

What makes this film a standout from others in the animated/cartoon genre is the technology that was developed especially for this film that make the visuals more enjoyable and exciting. Bird developed new technology that made a more realistic visualisation of clothing, hair and skin on the characters. He put so much attention to detail in this area that one reviewer on the rottentomatoes.com website described it as “Assembled with an intense amount of care and love so that every cut, every sound, every movement, builds to a euphonious whole”.

Being an entirely animated film, some of the actors who play the characters are 1) Craig T. Nelson as Bob Parr/ Mr Incredible 2) Holly Hunter as Helen Parr (bob’s wife) 3) Samuel L. Jackson as Lucius Best (bob’s close friend) and 4) Sarah Vowell as Violet Parr (the Parr’s first child).

All in All, it is a Funny thought provoking movie that finds its originality through the use of the technology+ a whole lot more.  Its not just another superhero film but a film that’s fun with real life perceptions and themes that everyone can relate to.

Enjoy!
