GEO28 Excellence Award: Trip to UK (Part 2)

by Ko Yo Han (고요한)

After spending my time in London, I got on a small plane to Edinburgh which is a city in Scotland. I didn’t think of going there at first but Professor Peter recommended me to go there. As soon as I got there, I found out why. In August the whole city is festive in Edinburgh. The atmosphere there is so exciting. There’s music, dancing and comedy shows that are funny and catches people’s attention and many other interesting performances. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Military Tattoo are two big events. The Edinburgh Festival fringe was very wonderful. It was created by creative souls from all over the world. And Military tattoo highlighted the nature of Scotland. Also during the event you can experience Scotch whisky. I really enjoyed this part; it was interesting to see how it was made and the differences between them.

For me to be at the most joyful and cheering place at that time alone was a little sad! Having nobody to share this moment, this feeling, I was a bit lonely. Next time I want to come again with people I love! But still it was a great experience.

So, I finally went to Manchester which is a city that is the last stop in my schedule. I could feel my journey was ending.

Manchester was a small city as I expected. What I liked best was the football stadium. I was really excited to see the Stanford Bridge, old Trafford and be at the places that I’ve always seen through TV. When I entered the stadium it was smaller than I thought. It was kind of cozy. I could see the benches where players and coaches sit. I could see some of the things that players in 60s and 70s used. It was great to see the history.

At the stadium I met someone that was a fan of Manchester team. We started to talk and it soon became a heated controversy! It was because I am fan of Chelsea. It was really fun and interesting. And he still couldn’t change my mind of Chelsea being the best team.

When we were talking he also mentioned about Korean teams like Suwon Samsung Blue wings, I was quite surprised to hear Korean teams from a foreigner. So I thought to myself, that people here are really interested in football not only their country but others too!
