My family has 5 members including me. Since I live with my grandmother fortunately we don’t have to endure the rush hour for going down to my hometown. So honestly my family can’t represent Korean traditional family, but we have our own way to celebrate Chuseok.
First we climb mountain which is near my house for enjoying the moonlight. Nowadays, Chuseok calendar is decided by the moon which means there is always full moon at night of the day. So except the day really cloudy we can see ‘ the beautiful ChuSeok full moon’. After the preparation of food for the memorial service ceremony we can enjoy the rest of it under the moon light.

Food is also an important part of our annual event. We cook short-rib stew of course and some vegetable pancakes. My mom usually cooks the stew whole day because my aunts and uncles visit our family to meet grandmother. Me and my dad fry cabbage, frozen pollack with eggs. And also there is SongPyeon which is Korean traditional rice cake in ChuSeok. My younger brother, 7 years old, really likes to make this. With rice dough, he can put anything he wants in it like honey, sesame, adzuki, etc. For the dinner we prepare sea food stew using crab. It’s very hot and spicy so it can remove oily feelings in our stomach.
Since my brother is very young my mother makes him wear HanBok the Korean traditional clothes to make him look cute. It’s uncomfortable actually but even if we have modernized HanBok we don’t really wear it. But my brother loves these clothes. For him it is like special clothes that are only for the special days.
Chuseok is the Second biggest Holiday in Korea. So if you have chance to enjoy it please don’t be hesitate.
