TA Jeremy recommends: Sherlock (TV show, 2010-present)

A British television series starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Fish Reeman, Sherlock is a crime -drama based on Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Homes Detective books based in the 21st century.
Available in the global lounge is series one and two so my advice would be start with the first and move onto the second, makes sense right? Both series are about a detective called Sherlock Holmes and his team, who assists the police with all sorts of crimes such as murders, apparent suicides, and mysterious disappearances.

The Creative team for both seasons’ series have some pretty cool work experience. Executive Producer Steven Mofatt created  the 2007 adaptation of the Strange case of Jekyll and Hyde into the series Jekyll.  Second Executive producer Mark Gatiss has written for the doctor who series.
Series one and two only have three episodes per season which don’t sound like much for an entire series but at 1.5 hours for each episode, you are never short of a dull moment when watching the extremely good looking Cumberbatch and his team run around the streets of contemporary modern day London with laptop and Smartphone in hand.

Here is a breakdown of both series:

Season 1:
In the first episode called a study in pink, Sherlock and Dr Watson (Sherlock’s sidekick and flatmate) investigate a number of apparent suicides. This episode is where Sherlock first meets Watson and we learn he is a decorated war hero who has just returned from Afghanistan. The second episode titled the blink banker focuses on a secret code that is being written on the walls of London which results in people reading it dying within hours of reading it.  This episode is fun as Sherlock find himself trying to decode a world of complicated symbols and codes alike.  The final episode is rather action packed and includes a deranged bomber and a car covered in blood.

Seasons 2:
Set in Buckingham palace, the first episode titled a scandal in Belgravia focuses on a blackmail scandal that is rocking the royal palace and threatening to topple it. The second episode focuses on a horrible murder of one of Sherlock’s client’s fathers and the team also visit a top secret army base.  Perhaps you could say the final episode goes out with a bang as what is described as the “crime of the century” takes place.  The Tower of London, the Bank of England and Pentonville Prison are all robbed on the same day and Sherlock and his team must work fast to work out who is responsible.

If you have ever read the books I will guarantee you will love this series and even if you haven’t read the books it’s still a whole of fun and adventure and leaves you wanting to book the next plane to London.
