A showcase of talents: JGEO2 Closing Ceremony

August 10 was a busy day for the students. The JGEO2 culminating activity was held that day. Students had their team talent show. After just a few days of preparation time, the spectators were so proud of the students. It was indeed impressive to witness a magnificent presentation from these young adults.

In addition to the talent show, a sumptuous pizza party was also prepared for the students to celebrate the joyous success of this camp... Afterwards, the day was ended with the JGEO2 closing ceremony.

GEO 15 Closing Ceremony - A Bittersweet farewell moment

Time flies so fast, GEO 15 which started last January 2 has finally come to an end. The one month intensive English camp was a success. The culmination activity was held last February 1, at twelve in the afternoon at IH267. Eloquent Teaching Assistant Gellene Custodio was the master of the ceremony for the event. Professors, TAs, students were all present during the closing ceremony.

Profesors Nico and Corien also graced the event. Professor Nico also delivered an wonderful testimony - how he gave out his HEART to Korea.

Closing video was presented. The video was a compilation of all the class, team, club activities that the students participated in. It was a great memento for everyone to enjoy. In addition, the GEO 15 presentation contest winners were awarded their certificates and prize money. GEO 15 team leaders from X League and Z League also rendered their speeches. During this time, the crowd was shouting and cheering for their teammates. The speakers expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the GEO organizers as they really had a wonderful time during the camp. Some of them were even teary eyed when they were delivering their speeches. This farewell was a bittersweet moment. They were happy that they accomplished a great endeavor, but at the same time sad that they have to part ways with newfound friends and conclude with the wonderful experience.

Teams cheering for their leaders as they thanked their groupmates for the support and hard work they did all throughout the camp

The winners of the World Cultural Fair were also announced. In the X League, Team Seychelles came in first and in the Z League, Team New Zealand was the victor! Aside from the points for this final team competition, added points were given to each team who won special awards.

Professor Jerry was extremely thankful that Team New Zealand won the World Cultural Fair. He gave everyone an encouragement -- indeed if an individual endeavors hard enough he can be good at what he is doing.

Team Seychelles was emotional while Professor Peter was delivering his inspiring speech.

The much awaited GEO Cup Winners were revealed without further a due and the winners for X and Z Leagues are...

With that, this unforgettable winter camp ended with tears and laughter as everyone bid goodbye to their newly found friends. Believe in yourself, you have the power to be a good English speaker

With GEO 9 coming to a close, several students had mixed feelings on the subject. Several students say that they are excited about the last day of classes. For a number of students, it is quite bittersweet. It provides them a sense of accomplishment, but ultimately it makes them realize just how much they will be leaving behind.

The students are all excited to go back to their lives, but at the same time they are happy of the memories that they will forever cherish. Their GEO 9 experience is truly remarkable. The newfound friends, outstanding professors, accommodating teaching assistants, academic classes, interesting club activities, exciting team competitions will be a memory that they will forever remember. Ultimately, they will forever remember and put in mind the CONFIDENCE (IN SPEAKING ENGLISH) that they rediscovered during this winter camp. Their "graduation" from GEO 9 is a start of new challenges that lies ahead for them - the challenge to continue to use English in and outside of their community, the challenge to communicate with others with confidence, the challenge to continuously believe in themselves and the power they have to make a difference in the lives of others.

As Professor Corien puts it, "Use it, or loose it". Continuing to use the English language after the program will be of help to them. (For one, they can talk amongst themselves using English, listen to English music, watch English shows, among others.)

Finally, quoting Professor Roger, Believe in yourself, you have to power to be good English speakers.

GEO 7: Closing Ceremony

August 20, 2010

The fantastic summer vacation has finally ended, for the GEO7 students this summer vacation is one of the worthwhile vacations they ever had. Do you want to know why? It’s because they made a right decision enrolling to an extraordinary program at the Catholic University of Korea: The Seventh Global English Outreach Program.

The program Started July 26, 2010 and ended August 20, 2010, a short camp for some but for the GE07 students it was a long journey. Now that it is finally over, they could simply smile and say what a great journey it has been.

Meanwhile, may I ask you to relax, take a deep breath, as we travel back to the great journey of the GEO7 students.

GEO7 students, it is not the end, but simply the beginning of the new challenges in life, a more confident and empowered YOU.

Cheers!!! See you on the Cross Roads!

Farewell GEO 6...Hello WORLD!!!

GEO 6 has officially ended on the 23rd of July, year 2010...

At exactly 1:00 pm, all of the students, TAs, and Professors gathered in the Global Lounge and witnessed the closing ceremony.

Nico giving his speech

Nico, the GEO Director, gave a warm and inspiring speech to all the students at the start of the event.  He encouraged each and every one of them to nurture their newly found courage and continue speaking in English.  Several videos were also presented to liven up the ceremony.  First, was a video made by the Thursday Movie Makers Club and another was a short video prepared by Team Switzerland for the students.  The second video, which was a compilation of photos and videos taken during the whole camp, made the students reminisce their wonderful and funny memories with their class and team mates.  As of that very moment, shouts of cheer and laughter filled the Global Lounge.

Class representatives were asked to give a speech upon receiving their class' certificates

The awarding of the Presentation Contest Winners and recognition of the Team Leaders took place after that and it was then followed by the giving of certificates to the students.  The closing ceremony was also the moment of truth...as the event progressed, the champion and winner who gets the GEO Cup was revealed.  Team Ireland came out victorious as they also bagged the first prize in the Team Drama Competition.

In the end, the video made by the Thursday Movie Makers Club was shown and once again the Global Lounge was filled with laughter which lingered as the students mingled and took pictures after the ceremony.
