GEO 16 Students Enjoy Series of Games During the Sports Night

Yesterday, February 13, all the team countries went to the gym for the Sports Night. Upon arriving there, teaching assistants (TAs) welcomed everyone and explained about the game rules. They even did game simulation so students can get a glimpse of how the game will take place.

The first game is the Hula Hoop Pass. This game needed good team work. Team members should grab or hold each other’s hands to form a big circle. We had to pass the hula hoop within two minutes. The team that was able to transfer the hoop the most gets the highest score and wins the challenge. The game was made more complicated as there was a time limit involved. There were times when our heads were hurt because we wanted to pass the hoop hurriedly. Nonetheless, it was still fun!

The next game is the Three-Legged Race. This game needed more team work than the previous one. Using a rope, two people should tie one of their legs together, and run or walk through an eight-pattern course of two chairs. We think that this game requires important communication skills with each other. It required us to communicate well with our partner so we can walk in the same pace and complete the task successfully. During the race, we felt that our legs were about to get broken. Going through the path was really difficult! But after going through the activity, we were happy and satisfied that we were able to do it well.

The third game was the Basketball Shoot-out. Each team has to select five boys and five girls who to participate in this game. It was not easy to shoot the ball. Most teams found the distance too far and only scored two or three points. Those students who were able to shoot the ball were very happy and the audience cheerfully applauded them!

The last game was the Snack Attack Relay. There were a series of tasks that the team should complete in order to finish this game. First, the team should choose fourteen members to do the mission. Eleven members from each team held a chopstick using their mouths, and they had to pass a piece of snack (onion ring) from one member to another. Afterwards, one person had to do elephant turns and find a candy in a bowl of flour without using his hands. Finally, one boy had to piggy back a girl while she eats a snack hanging on a string. The boy had to run fast to tap the bell at the baseline.

There were a lot of games during the Sports Night. It was also a great chance for each team to increase their team score. Overall, it was tiring, but we think everyone felt that the games were exciting and fun!
