A showcase of Teamwork and Fast Thinking in GEO 18 Speed Quiz

The GEO 18 Speed Quiz took place in IH 267 on July 4, 2012. Barbados, Ghana, India, South Africa, Scotland and New Zealand battled it out to see which teams are the best in guessing various words and names. To play, each team was asked to pick 7-8 members and each player had a turn in giving clues and guessing a word or a name. Each team had to accumulate as many correct answers as possible within two minutes.

The teams were divided into two leagues. First, there was the X-League composed of Scotland which won first place.  New Zealand came in at second place and South Africa placed third.  For the Z-League, India won first place, Barbados came in second and then Ghana which placed third.  The teams showed teamwork and fast thinking which made the event a fun experience for the students.

GEO 16 Speed Quiz garners mixed reactions from students

GEO 16’s first team competition was successfully administered. In order to solicit some feedbacks, students from Class 1-2 were asked to complete the following statement.

“Tuesday night, February 7, 2012, GEO 16 held a team competition, the Speed Quiz. My team…”

Here's what the students shared…

Yoo Ga Hyun: My team, India, finished seventh. What I didn’t like about the “Speed Quiz” was that India went first hence, we couldn’t prepare much. Even though, we played well during the first round, we finished seventh, because there were more difficult words during the second round. Despite the results, I still think India is the best team. I think that our team played well. I think Team India stands a good chance of winning the “Treasure Hunt.”

Kim Min Sung: My team, New Zealand, finished first. What I enjoyed about the “Speed Quiz” was that it brought about a lot of excitement. During the first round, we got only three points, but in the second round, we got nine points. So, we finished first. I love my team! LOL ^_~

Lim Si Won: My team, Panama, finished second. The Speed Quiz was funny and exciting. I want to play the game again… one more game please! If I were to play the game again I would do better than the previous one. For me, the time limit was very short. I think we needed more time.

The audience cheers and applauds for their respective teams.

And the winner is...Team New Zealand

Team New Zealand wins GEO 16 Speed Quiz

It was a night of fun and excitement as GEO 16 campers participated in their first team competition, “The Speed Quiz Contest”. The contest was held yesterday, February 7, in International Hub 267. There are seven competing teams namely: Seychelles, New Zealand, India, Singapore, Puerto Rico, Panama and Guyana. All the teaching assistants (TAs) and professors gathered to cheer each team. Each was given a few minutes to prepare for their cheer. The team cheers added more thrill to the competition.

Professor Jerry made the opening remarks. He reminded the teams that the most important thing of all is to have fun.

For the game proper, the main goal of the game is to guess the word that is shown in the screen. The student will face the other members, with the screen at their back.

The rules of the competition were as follows:
1. There will be eight players per round.
2. The game is divided into two rounds.
3. There will be a maximum of three minutes per game.
4. Gestures and Korean words are not allowed.
5. The person guessing the word is the only one who can say “Pass.”
6. Two consecutive pass means one point deduction to their team.
7. During the second round, previous player cannot participate. All the members should be able to play the game.

During the first round, Team New Zealand was on the lead, followed by Team Seychelles then by Team Singapore. For the Second round, Team Panama was on the lead followed by Team India.

Finally, the verdict has been revealed. Team New Zealand won the first place, followed by Team Seychelles and Panama for the second place and Team Guyana for the third place.

Great Job Everyone!! We hope everyone enjoyed the Speed Quiz Contest.

See you again during the next team competition.

Student’s thoughts on GEO 15′s Speed Quiz Challenge

Students from Class 3-1 shares theis Speed Quiz sentiments.

Jang Dae Gwan, Team Tuvalu

The GEO Speed Quiz was held in IH Conference Hall last January 4. I played the game with X league teams: Kenya, Seychelles, Jamaica and Tuvalu, which is my team. The rules of the game were simple. We had to explain the answers in English, but the use of gestures were prohibited.

Whenever it is our team’s turn came, the answers were too difficult to explain. So, our team didn’t get a high score. We would like to win but we couldn’t. I’m sure we’ll do better next time.

Ahn Jee Hoon, Team New Zealand

I am a member of team New Zealand. Our team is composed of Professor Jerry, TA Bo Ram and 16 members.

Wednesday, January 4, was the day of the Speed Quiz. We still didn’t get too close with each other. But we had to start practice; our professor, Jerry, was very passionate. He led us to a systematic and powerful practice. Thanks to Jerry, we were able to do a good practice.

Speed Quiz started and Jerry passionately cheered for us. His powerful cheer made us courageous but our team was at the bottom. Jerry told us, “never mind, who laughs last, laughs best.” We were impressed with his words.

Although our team was at the bottom, thanks to Jerry’s enthusiastic encouragement for our team to make the loudest cheer. Because of our loud cheer, our team received bonus points. During this occasion, our team became intimate. As a result, a week later, we were able to place third in Sports Night. The Speed Quiz made our team united.

GEO 15′s First Ever Team Competition: the Speed Quiz Challenge

GEO15 students participated in their very first team competition – Speed Quiz! During the game proper, student teams need to figure out a lot of words in a short time. The team that was able to guess the most number of words wins the competition. Every team actively participated and tried their best to be the winner of the game. For the X League, Jamaica won; whereas Singapore was the one who won for the Z League.

Here’s the results of the Speed Quiz:

Speed Quiz X League:

1. Jamaica – 100
2. Kenya – 90
3. Tuvalu and Seychelles – 80

Speed Quiz Z League:
1. Singapore – 100
2. Belize – 90
3. Panama – 80
4. South Africa and New Zealand – 70

Congratulations to everyone – Professors, Teaching Assistants and Students. Job well done!!!
