JGEO2 kicks off with a blast ^^

JGEO2 kicked off last July 29. The Korean orientation was held at three in the afternoon. Afterwards, they were given a campus tour. Students get a glimpse of the whole campus.

Since this is the first day of JGEO2, the management also planned a Social Evening, some ice breaker games were administered by the foreign teaching assistants to help participants be more acquainted with each other. It was a fun moment for everyone. The students enjoyed the games that were prepared for them. JGEO2 was a blast indeed.

GEO 18, the GEO Summer 2012 Edition

Welcome to GEO 18, the GEO Summer 2012 Edition. d(*⌒▽⌒*)b

This program will run from July 2, 2012 – July 27, 2012. It continues the GEO tradition of giving pure fun and wonderful learning experience to students. This time around we have 89 enrollees for the GEO 18 program. Each of the student was divided into their respective GEO levels from 1 to 5.

Students will also go through class sessions – content and conversation based classes. (FYI: The Content based classes focus on developing essential communication skills using a textbook (Cutting Edge), while the Conversation  classes consists of integrated skills and functions organized around themes of interest to the class, with a strong emphasis on discussion, presentations and interactive debate on various social issues.) Aside from the informative classes, students can enjoy their time during the team events and club series. Team events include the Speed Quiz, Social Evening, Sports Night, Field Trip, Game Show, Treasure Hunt, and Team Cultural Fair. The clubs for GEO 18 include the Health & Diet Club, Movie Maker Club,  Game Show Club, Survivor  Club, Music Video Shoot Club and Card club. In addition, students can also enjoy meeting new people during their Global Lounge visits. Surely, there are a lot of avenues to learn and practice English in GEO. So what are you waiting for? GEO 16 Opening Ceremony: A Beginning for Beginners in College Life 2012

Almost immediately after the level tests, an opening ceremony was conducted for the GEO 16 students yesterday, February 6 in IH 267. This orientation is held in order to brief the students about the house rules, to get acquainted with their professors and teaching assistants (hereonafter T.A.s), and to provide them a glimpse of the fun they are bound to experience in the English immersion program. One could somehow notice the students’ complex dispositions by looking at their eyes; feelings of excitement, curiosity, and even nervousness seem to characterize the general atmosphere of the day. Whatever they may be feeling however, the opening video displaying the fun and exciting highlights of GEO 16 appeared to be successful in stirring up positive emotion among the audience, making them to look forward to experience the program sooner than they previously wished for.

Following the ten minute video were brief introductions of English language professors concerning themselves, the countries they will be handling, the T.A.s whom they will be working with, and the clubs they will be conducting for the students to choose. With the professors’ brief, concise yet informative and effective short presentations about themselves and their clubs, the students seem to be hard-pressed having to decide which path they should choose in realizing their English abilities. Indeed, when it comes to GEO, confidence-building through continuous practice and community fun are the special ingredients for bringing out the English-speaking consciousness hidden deep within the students’ souls.

Afterwards is the short orientation about the rules and regulations that govern the lives of GEO students in the English immersion program. To leave no room for error as a result of misunderstanding, Korean T.A.s took the lead in explaining the prohibitions to students in the Korean language. Feedback comments and responses from the students seem to be enough evidence that everyone has understood the constraints that aim to refine their English speaking proficiency. Free stuff, board games, and beverages in the CUK global lounge are enough incentives for students serious in improving their skill in the language.

GEO11 Kicks off with Opening Ceremony for students

Approximately 270 GEO students gathered together last 4^th of March for the Opening Ceremony. The GEO students were introduced to their professors as well as their teaching assistants (TAs). The GEO Management and TAs welcomed the students and announced some reminders such as signing up for their Clubs, English Clinic appointment system, class attendance policy, OBF Visits, among others.

The Club Filipino TAs (FTAs) were also present during the opening ceremony. They gave a brief introduction and a short demonstration of what students can expect in their respective clubs. FTAs presented their powerpoints and videos to the GEO students. Some even sang and danced during the event.

GEO 11 team is headed by Professor Corien le Roux, the GEO coordinator and GEO 11 manager. Professors Jerry, David, Roger, Peter and Tom will be part of the teaching team this spring semester. The GEO TA team this semester is composed of Korean TAs and Filipino TAs headed by Angelo and Januel respectively. Ji-Yeon, Ezzy, Porter, Sarah, Min Jae, Sehyun, Jinah, Jihye, MK and Sasha are the Korean TAs for GEO 11. While Jam, Mark, Kat, Steph, Regina, Angeline, Glenn, Cris, Keith and Jonathan form part of the Filipino TAs this spring semester. GEO Administrator Carol and FTA leader Karina were also present during the opening ceremony.

GEO 10 Welcomes Incoming Freshmen and CUK Nursing Students!

February 7, 2011 - the GEO professors and TAs welcomed the newly graduated High School students from all over the country along with several Nursing students from CUK. At 9:30 am, the Global Lounge opened its doors to the GEO 10 participants for the Registration. They were ushered and guided by their corresponding Team Professors and TAs.

Following the Registration was the Korean Orientation wherein the Program is explained to the students as well as the rules and regulations. This was to be the last moment for the students to speak Korean in this "English Only" camp.

For the whole two weeks, four teams will compete in the X League and the Z League to see who gets to be the victorious group and win the highly coveted GEO cup. The X League comprises Team Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Bermuda, and India while the Z League includes Team Ireland, Samoa, Philippines and Botswana. With 10 classes from levels 1 to 4, GEO 10 will show you just how fun learning English is!

The most anticipated 'Eight Wave' formally opens

The eighth wave of Global English Outreach (GEO) has officially opened on 3rd of September, 2010. The orientation was held at the International Hub Conference Hall. It was attended by Professors Corien and Nicolaas Le Roux (GEO Managing Directors), International Language Education Center (ILEC) staff, Korean and Filipino Teaching Assistants (TAs), and of course, the enthusiastic GEO 8 students. The students aim to further develop their English communication skills. GEO 8 is different from the GEO Autumn Semester in 2009. This is because the whole staff, including the professors and management, further enhanced its curriculum, class schedule, and activities in order to address the dynamic needs of the students.

Classes are divided into four clusters mainly: on a Monday and Wednesday, or on a Tuesday and Thursday, with a 6-8pm or 8-10pm class time. Hence, the students have the freedom to choose their schedules. Furthermore, colloquiums are in line to feed the hungry minds of the students. This is coupled with social activities such as Halloween Party and Cheese and Wine Party to give opportunity to mingle with other participants of the program.

Let's all embrace Fall Semester of 2010 with a great anticipation of fun and mind stimulating activities in GEO 8. Let's learn. Let's have fun. Because learning is fun with GEO. ^^

GEO 6 Orientation & Opening Ceremony

Welcome and welcome again to all Global Citizens from all over the nations!

From now on you guys are the representatives of your countries.

At the Orientation that we have had during the morning time, students were supposed to search for their own team through the lists of their names on the wall. After that, they could come up to their team table and go through the immigration process with their ambassadors (TAs and Professors ^_^).

Now, let me introduce each team and the ambassadors from five different countries.
